Treatment Room Hygiene Checklist for London Beauty Practitioners

By SSV Suites team
Cleaning is included with every room at SSV Suites, and sharps disposal is available for £15 a week. Your own hygiene routine is what clients see and what licensing officers ask about, so a clear, repeatable checklist protects your clients and your reputation. This guide sets out a practical routine you can adapt to your treatments.
Before each working day
Start every day with a short reset:
- Check you have enough clean towels, couch roll and disposables for every booking.
- Wipe down the couch, trolley and work surfaces with a suitable disinfectant.
- Confirm your sharps container, if you use one, is not overfilled.
- Check products are in date and properly labelled.
- Make sure hand-washing facilities and sanitiser are ready to use.
Ask which rooms have an in-room sink when you book, particularly if your treatments need one close by.
Between every client
The turnaround between clients is where standards slip when diaries are busy. Build enough time into your bookings to do it properly:
- Remove and bag used linen and disposables.
- Clean and disinfect the couch, headrest and any surfaces touched.
- Clean or sterilise reusable tools according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before the next client.
- Lay out fresh couch roll, towels and tools.
If you book by the hour, remember that turnaround is part of your room time. Our hourly and daily room rental page explains how flexible hire works.
Tools, products and storage
Keep clean and used items clearly separated. Store sterilised tools in closed containers, decant products only into labelled, clean containers and never double-dip into wax, creams or gels. Single-use items should be used once and thrown away.
On a monthly room you can leave equipment and stock in place, which makes it easier to keep a consistent, organised set-up. Our rooms include storage, a treatment bed, mirror and professional lighting.
Sharps and clinical waste
If your treatments involve needles or blades, use an approved sharps container and never put sharps in general waste. SSV Suites offers sharps disposal at £15 a week. Ask your council about the rules for any other clinical waste your treatments produce.
Records and client consultation
Good hygiene includes good paperwork. Keep consultation forms that record allergies, contraindications and patch tests where relevant. Note the date and products used for each treatment. Clear records help you deliver safe treatments and answer questions from licensing officers or insurers.
Licensing and inspections
Hygiene standards are a central part of special treatment licensing. You hold your own licence where your treatments need one, so contact the council for your branch: Barnet for North Finchley, Camden for Finchley Road and Islington for Holloway Road. Ask what standards they expect for your specific treatments. Our guide to special treatment licences in London covers the questions to ask.
Building hygiene into your client experience
Clients notice hygiene even when they do not mention it. A freshly made couch, clean tools laid out in front of them and a practitioner who washes their hands before starting all build trust. You can reinforce this in your booking confirmations and social media by briefly explaining how you prepare the room between appointments.
Consider these small habits:
- Open new disposables in front of the client where appropriate.
- Keep the room tidy and free of clutter so surfaces are easy to clean.
- Store personal items away from your work area.
- Have a clear process for handling linen so clean and used items never mix.
Training matters too. Refresh your knowledge of infection control regularly, particularly if you add new treatments. Product manufacturers and training providers often publish cleaning guidance for specific tools and devices. Keeping a short written procedure for each treatment makes it easier to stay consistent, especially on busy days, and shows licensing officers and insurers that you take hygiene seriously.

Building hygiene into your daily routine
Hygiene is easiest to maintain when it becomes a habit rather than a task. Write a simple opening and closing routine and keep it on a laminated card in your kit. At the start of the day, check stock levels, clean surfaces and lay out fresh linen. Between clients, clean the bed, trolley and tools, change gloves and replace single-use items. At the end of the day, empty bins, store products safely and note anything that needs restocking. Review the routine whenever you add a new treatment, and check guidance from your council, insurer and training provider for any specific expectations.
