Getting Your First Treatment Room Ready to Trade

By SSV Suites team

Beauty rooms at SSV Suites include a treatment bed, mirror, storage and professional lighting, with hourly hire from £18 at North Finchley and Holloway Road and £20 at Finchley Road. Bills, fibre Wi-Fi, cleaning, reception and 24/7 access are included, with no VAT. That gives you a strong starting point. This guide covers everything else you need to open your diary with confidence.

Step 1: Choose the right room and pattern

Start with your treatment menu. List each treatment, the equipment it needs and how long it takes including set-up and turnaround. Then decide whether hourly, daily or monthly hire suits you. Hourly and daily hire need no deposit or contract. Monthly rooms range from £500 to £950 at Holloway Road, £650 to £1,200 at Finchley Road and £790 to £850 for beauty rooms at North Finchley.

If your treatments need a sink close by, ask which rooms have one. Browse our available rooms to compare.

Step 2: Sort licensing and insurance early

Licensing is often the longest step, so start it first. You hold your own special treatment licence where your treatments need one. Contact the council for your branch:

  • North Finchley: London Borough of Barnet
  • Finchley Road: London Borough of Camden
  • Holloway Road: London Borough of Islington

Ask what they need from you and how long applications usually take. At the same time, arrange professional insurance that covers every treatment and your new location. Our guide to special treatment licences explains the process in more detail.

Step 3: Equip and organise the room

Make a kit list for your treatments and check it against what the room already provides. Typical additions include:

  • tools and devices for your treatments
  • couch roll, towels and disposables
  • labelled storage for clean and used items
  • a sharps container if needed (disposal is £15 a week with us)
  • a small retail display if you sell products

On monthly hire you can leave everything in place and brand the room. On hourly or daily hire, a well-packed portable kit saves set-up time.

Step 4: Set up hygiene and records

Write down your cleaning routine between clients and at the end of each day, and keep consultation and patch-test records for every client. Our treatment room hygiene checklist gives you a ready-made routine.

Step 5: Get your booking and payments ready

Choose a booking system that lets clients book online, sends reminders and takes deposits if you use them. Set up a card reader or online payments and test the full process before your first client. Include the branch address and arrival instructions in every confirmation.

Step 6: Tell people you are open

Update your social media, Google Business Profile and website with your new location. Our North Finchley branch is at 708A High Road, London N12 9QL, Holloway Road at 490 Holloway Road N7 6JB and Finchley Road at 106 Finchley Road NW3 5JJ. Consistent address details help clients find you.

Step 7: Do a dry run

Before your first paid appointment, walk through a full booking: arrival, consultation, treatment, aftercare, payment and turnaround. Time each stage so your booking slots are realistic.

Your first month of trading

The first month is a chance to refine everything. Keep notes after each day: which treatments ran over time, what you forgot to bring, which questions clients asked on arrival and which slots were hardest to fill. Small adjustments in the first few weeks save a great deal of stress later.

Ask early clients for honest feedback and, when they are happy, a review. Reviews on your Google Business Profile and social media help new clients choose you with confidence. Encourage rebooking before clients leave, as a steady base of returning clients makes room costs easy to plan.

Review your room pattern at the end of the month. If you booked hourly and found yourself adding hours each week, a regular day may suit you better. If your days were full, think about a monthly room where you can leave equipment and stock in place. Check your income against your costs, set aside money for tax and adjust prices if your figures show that a treatment is not paying its way.

Your first week of trading

Treat your first week as a trial run. Book a few friendly clients first so you can practise your set-up, timings and turnaround without pressure. Keep notes on anything that slowed you down, such as products stored too far away or an awkward trolley position, and adjust as you go. Ask each client for honest feedback on the welcome, the room and the booking process. By the end of the week you will know how long each treatment really takes, which helps you plan room time and pricing with confidence for the months ahead.
